Babai river flowing through the Bardia national park is one of the best habitat for mighty golden mahsheer with several spots for fishing and is easily accessible from the road. The best season to go fishing is before or after the monsoon i.e. from February till April and from October till November when fishes go upstream for spawning and consume less food. An early morning 30 km drive by jeep will drop you by the Karnali River. This is followed by a serene day rafting down the gentle Karnali. Drifting down the river allows you to spot wildlife, especially the endangered freshwater Gangetic dolphin, the gharial crocodile, exotic birds and big game on the nearby river banks. Swimming is also possible and sometimes the dolphins may join you!
The Karnali River is one of the longest Himalayan river of mid-west Nepal famous for fishing game. A good habitat of great fish like the mahseer, you can go fishing with good fishing equipment. The best time for fishing is generally October to April.
